The Two Fatalities Revealed in Brown University Shooting as Authorities Press On With Hunt for Gunman.

The pair of scholars who lost their lives in the weekend's mass shooting at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their shooter persisted following the freeing by local law enforcement of the sole person detained in connection in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was called “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.

She served as second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. The White House press secretary also expressed words of sorrow online, saying in part: “There are no words. Remembering her family and friends, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the prestigious university, his family confirmed.

Umurzokov’s identity was confirmed by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and assisting patients,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a online post.

The Shooting Incident

An additional nine individuals were hurt in the violent event in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Authorities said on Sunday evening that a 24-year-old male detained in a raid at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the campus earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“A perpetrator remains free,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the passing of Umurzokov in a statement. “Our profound condolences go out to the Umurzokov family, companions, and peers and lament the passing of his potential.”
