The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
