Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
