Lawmakers from the Democratic party voiced fury after former President Donald Trump charged a group of Democratic legislators of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be detained and punished "by death" following their publication of a disputed video.

The Content That Sparked the Dispute

The recorded message, shared on earlier this week, showcases six Democratic lawmakers who in the past acted in armed forces or intelligence capacities.

"Similar to us, you all made an oath to protect and uphold this national charter," the lawmakers affirmed in the 90-second video. "At present, the dangers to our constitution don't only come from overseas, but from domestically. Our statutes are clear, you can decline improper directives, you can decline improper directives, you have to refuse unlawful commands. No one has to carry out orders that violate the statutes or our national charter."

Trump's Angry Reply

The video message reportedly trigger a furious response from the former president.

On Thursday morning, Trump posted on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another message, he declared: "This represents really concerning, and Risky to our Nation. Their comments cannot be permitted to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third message, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also reposted a comment that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Representatives Answer

Following Trump's statements on that day, Democratic leadership issued a unified declaration denouncing the statements.

"Partisan aggression has no role in America," they declared. "Congress members who participated in the video all acted our United States with exceptional patriotism and excellence. We unequivocally condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and harmful death threats against members of Congress, and urge GOP representatives to forcefully do the same."

The opposition officials also said that they had been in contact with security officials "to ensure the protection of these representatives and their families."

"Donald Trump must without delay take down these radical social media posts and withdraw his dangerous rhetoric before he causes harm," the announcement stated.

Lawmakers' Firm Reaction

The lawmakers who were featured in the video also published a statement.

"We serve as ex-military personnel and security experts who love this United States and made an vow to safeguard and defend the national charter of the United States," they said. "This commitment continues forever, and we aim to keep it. No threat, pressure, or promotion of aggression will deter us from that sacred duty."

"The significant point is that the former president deems it punishable by death for us to repeat the legal requirements," they continued. "Armed forces members should recognize that we have their support as they execute their pledge to the constitution and obligation to follow only legal commands. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They added: "All citizens must come together and condemn the president's demands for our execution and political violence. This is a period for moral clarity."

More Partisan Reactions

The Opposition leader also censured Trump's comments and published on online networks: "It's important to understand: the President of the United States is requesting the execution of public representatives."

He stated: "This represents an direct THREAT. Each congressional member, all representatives, all citizens – regardless of party – should censure this right away and without qualification."

The Republican House speaker defended Trump's allegation that the Democrats had been involved in "treason", labeling the video as "extremely improper", stating: "It is very risky, you have prominent officials of the government instructing military personnel to defy commands, I think that's unprecedented in the nation's past."
