Italy's prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, is set to sell a reported 270 gifts given to her by foreign dignitaries on official trips. This unusual assortment is said to contain items such as a chainsaw-wielding statuette of Argentinian president Javier Milei and a pair of blue python skin shoes with gilded heels.

These items, combined, are worth an estimated €800,000. The plan is to auctioned off via competitive bidding by a Rome-based art dealer. The specific date remains to be announced, but the aim is to hold the auction by year's end, with all funds raised donated to non-profit organizations.

Storage Room Holdings

These gifts are currently kept in a repository on the third floor of Palazzo Chigi. Sources state that Meloni furthermore planning to auction off gifts received by her political forerunners that have been sitting unused over a long period.

A complete inventory remains made public, but partial details was gleaned earlier this year when a comprehensive document of all declared gifts was presented in parliament. The discussion focused on if a legal value limit was being followed. By law, a prime minister must declare presents exceeding €300.

• A box of jewellery from the president of Slovakia.
• A porcelain tea set and a selection of wines from Hungary's leader.

• A digital device from the Ukrainian president.
• Watercolour paintings from Moldova.
• An assortment including makeup, a skateboard, and several rugs from trips to Libya and other Arab nations.

"Perhaps the most unusual gifts were the statuette from Milei and the exotic footwear," one might note.

The prime minister has received praise, mainly from her own political sphere, with winning over foreign leaders and re-establishing Italy as a significant player on the world stage once again.
