Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few key changes:
- Each team includes only 8 real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative ways to have fun with the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
